Having lived in Langwith for over 35 years and a former pupil of Whaley Thorns Primary School, I have a sound understanding of the local community and area.
On leaving Whaley Thorns in 1997 I attended Meden School and Technology College completing my GCSE’s and gaining full time employment at a local manufacturing company where I was appointed the supervisor, overseeing 5 departments. Whilst in this role I gained vital experience in logistics, workload planning and audit, as well as being part of a team implementing change to ensure smooth and reliable working strategies.
I later left this role, in 2007, to pursue  carer with the ambulance. During my time within the ambulance service, I have held numerous positions, graduating from Coventry University in 2018. I currently hold the position of Paramedic and work in and around the Chesterfield area. As a Paramedic I continually work alongside colleagues from different sectors to ensure local needs are met.
As a Paramedic I understand the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusivity within the public sector as well as the importance of ensuring that staff remain current in mandatory training, such as yearly safeguarding training.
In my personal life I have 2 children, both of which have attended Whaley Thorns prior to commencing secondary education. One of my children received a diagnosis of ASD (autism spectrum disorder) whilst attending Whaley Thorns. The principal and staff at Whaley Thorns were instrumental in this diagnosis helping to support us as a family with the diagnosis and ensuring adequate support was in place to help my child achieve their potential.
On gaining the position of chair, I was delighted to help my local community and be able to influence changes to make Whaley succeed. As chair of governors, I look forward to continuing to support this amazing school alongside a strong team of governors, each with their own experiences and drive forward and to make Whaley Thorns the best school we can.

Being a Governor means I can play a productive part of the village and its community. Whaley Thorns is a great school and I feel this is an exciting time to be part of the school's governing body. Being a Governor means being able to help support the education and welfare of the children and their families, but also means I can be part of a team that moves the school forward to achieve its goals for the future.
